    The depot was in use as a passenger facility until the Second World War, when the passenger agency was closed down as a “non-essential service.” The depot was downgraded and used as a break facility for switch crews working the San Leandro area.

  • HO Scale Display

    Construction of the HO scale model railroad display began in 1991. As with most model railroad displays, there is always more work to do. Per the National Model Railroad Association (NMRA) Kalmbach Memorial Library, the SLHRS has the largest HO scale helix in the United States both in height and in diameter.

  • G&O Garden Railway

    The G&O will be a unique outdoor model railroad because it is being built as a public display. It will feature two gauges of trains — G gauge and O gauge 3-rail. G gauge is the most popular gauge for outdoor trains. Lionel and other companies popularized O gauge 3-rail early in the last century.

  • Our Winter Open House is Saturday December 3rd from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sunday December 4th from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm. We’ll be running G & O scale trains outside on the garden railway and HO scale trains inside. There will also be a bake sale and possibly a small yard sale to benefit the society. If you’re interested in donating baked goods or train related items to sell, contact us!
  • HO Scale Operations sessions will be held the last Tuesday of every month.  Contact Operations chair Eugene Brichacek for more information.
  • Visitors are always welcome to come in and see us during our weekly open hours. We’re open Tuesday nights from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM and Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
